Jason and Grace in Vegas Jason and Grace at Knott's Jason and Grace at the Chargers Game Engagement Night

Jason and Grace met in high school and became good friends just after Jason graduated. That summer, they spent a lot of time together and became interested in one another and began dating a week after their July birthdays in 2002. The first year of their relationship, they met many life challenges that they faced together. Jason continued his education after High School at Palomar Community College while Grace finished her last year of High School. Both of them struggled to find career paths that worked for them. Nevertheless, each supported the other in their endeavors to discover what it was.

In the following years, they learned a lot about their relationship and found strengths in one another that would erase the weaknesses they once had. Each helped the other though life’s struggles, and in Grace’s last quarter of college, they took the big plunge and moved in together. Living togther and being out in the world on their own continued to strengthen their relationship. They learned that they needed each other for the many simple things in life that would otherwise seem impossible. Knowing that he soon wanted to propose to Grace, Jason convinced her to move into her parents home as an effort to help save money for a house. Little did she know, Jason had already asked her parents for her hand in marriage and Jason waited for the perfect time to pop the question. He took her parents on the quest to find the perfect engagement ring, and then he waited. He took her out for a romantic dinner for two on the Hornblower Dinner Cruise in San Diego Bay on February 17th, and after a comedic series of events, he proposed to her. After some confusion and many tears, Grace said “of course I will!” and they were excited to go home and tell her parents. That night, Grace found out that her family had known for weeks that this was coming, and certain mysterious things started to make sense.

Shortly after that, they went to the Philippines with Grace’s parents and brother to meet her relatives and share the news. Although it was a culture-shocking experience for Jason, it was a heart-warming experience for Grace to introduce Jason to her grandmother, Encarnacion. They knew it was meant to be when Grandma Carnay asked Jason for a scoop of ice cream and smiled as he returned (somewhat of an inside joke between them and her family). They explored the cities of Manila and Pangasinan, then spent 3 days in Hong Kong after those 2 weeks in the hot and humid weather of the Philippines. Their first time in an unfamiliar city was the most exciting and strenuous experience they have ever had. Next time, they’d opt for a tour guide :)

Since they returned from their trip in 2007, they’ve been planning their 2008 June wedding. Now is the most exciting time of their lives, and they look forward to sharing the best day of their life with everyone they love.

JasonAbout Jason
Jason was born in Oceanside at Tri-City Hospital and was raised in the small town of Vista. When he was young, his parents, Dain and Gina, split up. Despite the difficult divorce, Jason grew up loved by many. While his mother was learning how to deal with the divorce, she provided Jason with positive memories of spending time with her on weekends. A couple years later, Dain met Christine, who soon became his step mother and treated Jason like her own son. Although he met her with some resistance, he would soon come to find that her love was unconditional and Jason found himself surrounded by 3 loving families, his dad’s, his mom’s, and Christine’s. Soon, Jason would be accompanied by one sister, Tara, and 2 brothers, Matthew and Devin. Tara and Matthew are from his mother’s side, and Devin is the son of Dain and Chris. Throughout his childhood, he loved to spend time with his siblings.

In grade school, Jason was well known for his athletic ability. He played baseball since he was 5 years old until his last year of High School. His whole family was so supportive of his ability. His papa, Jack Blackburn, would play catch with him at the cabinet shop, the Blackburn family Cabinetry business. His grandparents, parents, aunts, cousins, brothers, and sister would come to every home game to support and watch him play.

After High School, Jason decided to leave his passion for baseball behind and focus on his future. He started taking classes at Palomar Community College while working full time. In 2006, Jason graduated with an AA degree and is currently studying to obtain his Bachelor’s in Communications. While in school, he’s worked in several different areas. His longest run has been at Starbucks where many of his coworkers enjoy his positive energy. he has also worked for Cintas as a Sales Representative and recently was in search for a career in the Airlines. He was offered training as a Flight Attendant for Continental Airlines, but found that this type of work was not for him. He loves airports and traveling, so his current Communications study is focused on the Hospitality industry.

GraceAbout Grace
Grace was born and raised in the outskirts of San Diego in the North County area. She has one brother, Earvin, who she struggled to get along with throughout her childhood, but has learned to understand him as he is currently finishing his last half of High School. Shortly after Earvin was born, their parents, Rolando and Geneber, purchased their first home in Vista while also taking care of Geneber’s parents, Encarnacion and Alfeo. Since their parents worked day and night, Grace and Earvin’s grandparents played a large role in raising them. After 4 years of living in the new house, their grandparents decided that it was time to go back home to the Philippines and spend time with their 4 other children and their grandchildren. Unexpectedly a few months after that, Alfeo passed away, and Encarnacion could not push herself to move back the States. As her family was going through this difficult time, it made it only harder as Grace’s parents struggled to continue working and helping family members in the Philippines. This motivated Grace to build a better future for herself so that she wouldn’t have to make the kind of sacrifices her parents made for her growing up when she became old enough to have her own family.

Having been raised by parents who’ve struggled to come from the small islands of the Philippines, Grace takes hard work to heart and uses that as a standard of life. Throughout grade school, she was enrolled in GATE and Honors classes, and then chose to take various Advanced Placement classes in High School. She took school work very seriously, but it didn’t stop her from having fun. She was a dancer in High School and took every opportunity she could to take extra classes. After graduating High School in 2003, she went to The Art Institute of California – San Diego where 3 years later she obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Interactive Media Design. Her High School grades, Advanced Placement test scores, and parents’ financial standing earned Grace multiple grants and scholarships for higher level education. Through college (if you can call it that), she worked part-time at Banana Repbulic and part-time at a north county web development firm. She currently works at an Ad Agency in La Jolla, Aviatech, and does freelance work as gb:design, and just recently started PixlDot Creative with her college buddy, Reuben Goulart.

She enjoys her career, with all its struggles and rewards. She finds herself in a great learning environment, and enjoyable social environment, where she can take the initiative to pick up something new with the industry’s constant refresh rate. When she’s not hard at work, she’s working out at the gym. If she could, she’d spend all day there.
